Marc Burckhardt

Marc Burckhardt lives in Austin, Texas, but his art can be found in galleries, publications, books, advertisements, and album covers throughout the world. His work has been profiled in 3x3 Magazine, Communication Arts, and Juxtapoz, and he has received numerous awards from CA, American Illustration, D&AD, PRINT, and Graphis, as well as several Gold & Silver Medals from the Society of Illustrators. His clients include Rolling Stone, TIME, SONY Records, the New York Times, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Major League Baseball, and Volkswagen, and he is a recipient of the prestigious Hamilton King Award from the Society of Illustrators.

In 2005, SONY Records commissioned Marc to create a special collector's edition portrait of Johnny Cash for the box set "The Legend", which went on to win 2006 Grammy® for Best Art Direction on a Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package. In 2010, Marc was named the official State Artist by the Texas State Legislature and the Texas Commission on the Arts. 

Marc is past President of the Illustration Conference and Chair of the Society of Illustrators 47th Annual, and currently serves on the advisory boards of 3x3 and the Austin chapter of AIGA. Previously an instructor at the School of Visual Arts in New York, he is frequently a speaker at universities and design centers throughout the US, and he currently teaches in the illustration program of Texas State University.
