Frequently Asked Questions About the Student Competition

Q. Can we submit 3D pieces into the competition?
A. You may submit 3D pieces into the competition. Items should be secure within a box or container, and an entry form must be securely attached to each piece. 3D pieces do not need to be mounted to a black board. Entry forms may be scaled down if you would like, but the information needs to be big enough to read. If 2D pieces are to be submitted as well, they may be in a separate portfolio bag/case, and upon check-in, you will be assigned a portfolio number with an A for the portfolio bag and a B for the box/container with 3D pieces. Please be warned that accidents may happen and you face this risk when submitting originals, so you have the option of submitting photos on black boards if you prefer.

Q. Where on the website are the entry forms that we put on the back of each piece?
A. They are at the bottom of the
Competition & Forms page. There is an entry form for undergraduate submissions, and one for graduate submissions.

Q. How do I fill out the total number of items in portfolio part of the entry form if I have a series or campaign? For example, if I have eight entries, two entries of which are a series of three, would I say I have a total number of eight or a total of twelve?
A. Twelve. When portfolio items are judged, they are removed from the portfolios and spread out on tables. The purpose of this question on the form is to ensure that when the pieces go back into the portfolio bags, we know how many pieces to look for, so in this case, we would know to look for twelve pieces.

Q. When I registered, I said I was attending but not submitting a portfolio. I changed my mind and would like to submit a portfolio. What do I need to do?
A. Just send us an email or comment on the
web form to let us know and we will change it in our system. If you don't notify us, it is no big deal - we won't hold you to it. As long as you are registered, you may come to the Summit or not, and/or you may submit a portfolio or not.

Q. Is there a certain size the black board matting needs to be?
A. Whatever size works for you, works for us.

Q. Do you accept graduate work?
A. Yes, we accept graduate work, and it is judged separately from undergraduate submissions. Graduate entries have a different entry form that can be found on the bottom of the
Competition & Forms page. Graduate students should register as students.

Q. How do I know if you received my registration form?
A. If you press Submit, and you are redirected to the payment screen that has a picture of a pig, then your form has been submitted. If you are still on the same registration page, check to see if it is asking you for more information. You should receive an email receipt automatically once your payment has been submitted. Both the form and payment confirmation are emailed to us, which we usually match up with the email addresses on the form and payment form, so please use the same email address on both.

Q. What happens if I win something but cannot attend the awards ceremony?
A. We will give your certificate/trophy and money to a teacher representing your school, or we will take it back with us to our office in Houston where we will contact you the week after the Summit to make arrangements to have it sent to you.

Q. Can my friend drop off and pick up my portfolio?
A. Yes, we understand that not everyone can make it to the Creative Summit, so friends and family members are welcome to drop off and pick up portfolios on your behalf. We are not responsible for portfolios left behind, so please be sure to make arrangements have yours picked up. We will not mail portfolios back to you.

Helpful hint: Make your portfolio stand out and easily recognizable with ribbon or something on your handle that you can single out quickly. This will make the portfolio pickup run more smoothly.
